The City of Whittlesea has taken out a major award for its Netball and Basketball Strategy while an up and coming industry professional working at Council has been acknowledged by the parks and leisure sector.
Council won the Strategic Planning Award at Parks and Leisure Australia Awards - Victorian/Tasmanian region where Leisure Planning Coordinator Stephanie Ristevska was named the David Aldous Young Professional of the Year.
Chair of the Panel of Administrators, Ms Lydia Wilson, congratulated the team for its leadership in this field, which demonstrates initiative, innovation and thorough understanding of our community.
"It is wonderful to see Council awarded for its foresight and implementation of the Netball and Basketball Strategy, ensuring residents have access to quality infrastructure that supports equitable participation for years to come," Ms Wilson said.
"Congratulations also to Stephanie who demonstrates great talent as a young professional and aspiring leader in the parks and leisure sector."
The Whittlesea Netball and Basketball Strategy was informed by participation trends in both sports, detailed facility audits and a thorough engagement process with key stakeholders including clubs, local and state sporting associations and the wider community.
Implementation of the strategy will result in more than 60 new courts constructed over the next 20 years.
The $82 million investment aims to increase local participation opportunities and establish a strong participation pathway for netball and basketball in the City of Whittlesea.
"It is fantastic to see Council receive industry acknowledgment for this leadership and foresight that will benefit our fast-growing community and promote physical activity," Ms Wilson said.
These nominations will now be considered at the national Parks and Leisure Australia Awards.
