Staff, members and guests of Araluen Golf Resort have raised close to $50,000 for Cancer Council's research, prevention and support services, by taking part in a nation-wide golf fundraising event that's come to WA in 2020.
The Longest Day challenge is to successfully complete four rounds of golf from dawn to dusk and raise funds for Cancer Council WA.
Araluen Golf Resort's General Manager, Clarke Osborne, said he jumped at the chance to get the club involved.
"My brother Kent had a few melanomas cut out of his head about a year ago and I thought what a great opportunity to do something that can raise money, raise awareness about sun protection and get people involved," Mr Osborne said.
"We put it out there and we got a great response. At the time we were the only course doing it so I had to turn away about 50 or 60 people unfortunately.
"Our goal was $30,000 and so far we have raised $47,244. We are currently the 7th top fundraising club in Australia."
Mr Osborne said 12 teams completed the challenge from 5am - 7.30pm on Monday 21 December.
"We had 10 teams of four in golf carts plus two walking teams plus we've had a few other teams do it on different days," he said
"For us it's all about sun protection awareness, raising much-needed funds for Cancer Council and having a great day.
"It's amazing being involved and I would hope it sets the precedent for many years to come."
Our Marketing Manager, Communications & Community Engagement, Simmone Sharp, said they was so grateful to Clarke and the Resort for their support.
"Clarke is passionate about golf and about sun protection, so we are thrilled Araluen Golf Resort has thrown its support behind this fundraising event," Ms Sharp said.
"Clarke decided to waive the fees for the day and offered free sunscreen all day to all players, which is very generous.
"Playing 72 holes in a single day is no mean feat but the day is made more memorable when you're helping those impacted by cancer like Clarke's brother Kent."
