Western Australia is one step closer to a revitalised Perth Cultural Centre, with the contract for the masterplan awarded to Perth architectural firm Taylor Robinson Chaney Broderick.
The masterplan will set out a vision for the future development of the precinct enabling works to be staged over time, consistent with a vision for development and activation of the Perth Cultural Centre.
This co-ordinated approach contributes to the delivery of the City Deal and the Cultural Infrastructure Framework.
Revitalisation of the precinct will increase tourism and visitation numbers, which supports the diversification of the economy, creates jobs and develops business opportunities.
As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:
"Revitalisation of the Perth Cultural Centre is well on its way with improved lighting, landscaping and shaded seating, along with the recent opening of the WA Museum Boola Bardip.
"The Perth Cultural Centre is a key part of our cultural infrastructure assets, with the potential to be a central point for local visitors and tourists in our capital city.
"The work of the Perth Cultural Centre Taskforce, established by the Government in late 2019 and chaired by John Carey MLA, has been instrumental in getting this important work to this stage.
"I would like to thank John and all the members of the taskforce for their efforts and commitment.
"The State Government is continuing to develop a vision for a strong and sustainable precinct that creates opportunities for the resident cultural institutions and, in turn, creates positive outcomes for the community of Western Australia."
