Missing bushwalker located

A 10-year-old boy visiting Tasmania from Queensland with his father has been located safe and well after being reported missing during a bushwalk to Shipstern Bluff this afternoon.

The boy became separated from his father on the Tunnel Bay Track at about 1pm today.

His father remained at the location the boy was last seen and immediately contacted police.

Local police, search and rescue officers, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, police drones, Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service personnel, a volunteer tracker dog, and State Emergency Service volunteers were deployed to the search.

The boy was located by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew just before 4pm.

"This is the best possible outcome for everyone involved in the search and the boy's family. I commend the boy's father for remaining calm, staying at the location the child was last seen, and contacting police early," said search controller, Senior Constable Callum Herbert.

"Our thanks go to all of the volunteers and officers involved in the search," he said.
