Monash University has entered the global top 50 universities for scientific research, rising eight places to 45 in the National Taiwan University (NTU) Ranking 2020.
Monash climbed more places than any other Australian Group of Eight (Go8) university, achieving a record rankings result out of 800 universities globally.
Nationally, Monash retained its fourth-place ranking, achieving strong results across each of the six broad assessment fields.
Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said the results were the University's best ranking performance to date, and reinforced Monash's global reputation as a research-intensive university.
"The NTU Ranking further cements Monash's place as a leader in the global research community at a time when the world is looking to our foremost researchers for solutions to such unprecedented challenges," Professor Gardner said.
"Through our innovation, persistence and ingenuity, together with government and industry collaborations, Monash will continue to strive for new breakthroughs in research, covering a breadth of disciplines, that will have far-reaching implications on a global scale."
The rankings measure universities' performance in science research, based on published scientific papers. Universities receive an overall ranking, as well as rankings across six broad subject fields - Agriculture, Medicine, Engineering, Life Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. They also receive rankings in 24 individual subjects.
The result solidifies Monash's consistent position in the top 100 of the global rankings.
It comes after Monash ranked 55th in the QS World University Rankings 2021 in June, followed by a ranking of equal 64th in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2021 in September.
