Office destroyed by fire; man arrested at Bankstown

Police and firefighters remain at the scene of a fire which has destroyed an office in Bankstown this morning.

Emergency services were called to Bankstown City Plaza shortly after 3.30am (Thursday 17 December 2020), after reports a first-floor office was alight.

Officers from Fire and Rescue NSW attended and have been working to extinguish the blaze; however, the office has been destroyed with adjoining businesses sustaining smoke and water damage.

Acting on information provided, officers from Bankstown Police Area Command went to a home in Bowden Boulevarde at Yagoona about 4am and arrested a 59-year-old man.

The man has been taken to Bankstown Police Station and inquiries are continuing.

Bankstown City Plaza is closed between North and South Terraces, and buses are being diverted; trains are not impacted. Check www.transportnsw.info for updates.
