Police officer assaulted at St Kilda foreshore

Prahran Divisional Response Unit detectives are hoping to identify a woman after a police officer was assaulted at St Kilda Foreshore on Wednesday.

Officers were patrolling on Jacka Boulevard when they received reports a fight had broken out between a group of people about 11.45pm.

Upon arrival police observed 15-20 people behaving aggressively towards each other and deployed OC spray to disperse the crowd.

As officers were clearing the crowds, a group of female teens became abusive and refused to move on.

A female teen then punched a male police officer to the head and OC was deployed before she ran away.

The officer was treated for minor facial injuries.

Detectives have released an image of a female teen who they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

She is perceived to be African in appearance, aged 20-22 years-old and was wearing a blue coloured bikini at the time.

Anyone who recognises the female or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
