Targa a roaring success

Elise Archer,Member for Clark

Targa Tasmania is an iconic, world-class event that the Tasmanian Government has proudly supported since it began in 1992, which has attracted tens of thousands to Tasmania each year.

The event is an important feature of the State's event calendar, and one of Tasmania's major sporting event attractions which builds Tasmania's reputation as a world-leading destination of choice.

It's estimated that Targa Tasmania generates more than $8 million of direct spending in Tasmania each year, with benefits reaching businesses like cafes, hotels and petrol stations across the State.

The Hodgman Liberal Government, through Events Tasmania's Major Events Partnerships program, has provided $1.7 Million to Targa Tasmania to support local and national events from 2017 to 2021.

This year, Targa Tasmania included six days of tarmac rally driving, covering more than 2000 kilometres across 33 competitive stages.

The rally occurred on closed roads, with 270 cars, ranging from restored classics to state-of-the-art high performance sports vehicles, taking part.

I would also like to congratulate the 1000-plus volunteers who contributed to the 2019 event, and make it such a success every year.
