Western Australians are invited to have their say on the future of health and wellbeing through the development of the State's first comprehensive Preventative Health Strategy.
Led by the Department of Health on behalf of the Minister for Preventative Health, the Hon Sabine Winton MLA, in collaboration with the Mental Health Commission and Healthway, the strategy will provide a long-term roadmap for improving health and wellbeing across Western Australia.
Preventative health focuses on protecting and promoting health, preventing disease and injury, and supporting wellbeing across all stages of life. It includes everyday actions such as healthy eating, physical activity and sun protection, as well as broader initiatives such as immunisation programs, cancer screening and public health campaigns.
Western Australia has a strong history of investing in prevention and delivering meaningful health outcomes. Initiatives such as Make Smoking History, BreastScreen WA, LiveLighter, immunisation programs and cancer screening programs have helped reduce avoidable illness, support early detection of disease and improve health outcomes for Western Australians.
These achievements demonstrate the significant role prevention can play in improving quality of life, reducing avoidable illness and injury, addressing health inequities, and helping people live longer, healthier and more productive lives.
Have your say
Community voices are central to the development of the strategy. We want to hear from people across Western Australia about what supports good health and wellbeing and the actions that could make the biggest difference.
The consultation is open until 24 July.
