Woolworths ramps up online shopping capacity to support more Melbourne customers

Woolworths is increasing online delivery and in-store Pick up availability in Melbourne in response to a 40 per cent lift in online shopping demand across the city over the last week.

The supermarket will offer thousands more weekly online orders with dozens of new trucks to join its fleet of more than 200 Victorian vehicles and hundreds of couriers from on-demand delivery partners Sherpa and Drive Yello ready to fulfill orders.

All Woolworths stores in Melbourne also offer Community Pick up - allowing customers to place an order online for themselves or have a family member, friend or neighbour collect it for them.

For the safety of customers and team members, Community Pick up and online delivery are both contactless services with all orders packed into reusable bags.

Woolworths Director of e-Commerce Annette Karantoni said: "We know this is an uncertain time for many Melburnians, and we're moving quickly to make our online shopping services available to more customers than ever before.

"Together with our on-demand courier partners, we can fulfill thousands of extra orders each week to help support the essential grocery needs of more Victorian customers online.

"We also have our Community Pick up service, which allows customers to order groceries online for in-store collection either by themselves, a family member, friend or neighbour.

"While we have healthy stock levels to draw on, we've taken the precautionary step of reinstating online purchase limits on select categories to ensure our customers have fair access to key essentials.

"We have more than enough product for all of our customers if we all just buy what we need in our weekly shop."

Supermarkets are deemed an essential service and Woolworths stores will remain open with all the appropriate social distancing and hygiene measures in place.

On Wednesday 24 June, Woolworths reinstated a purchase limit of two items on toilet paper, hand sanitiser, paper towel, flour, sugar, pasta, mince, long-life milk, eggs and rice across its Victorian stores and online orders.

Woolworths' Priority Assistance service offers dedicated online delivery windows to the elderly, people with a disability, those with compromised immunity and people in mandatory self-isolation. More than 180,000 Victorians are registered with Priority Assistance already.
