Appeal for dashcam footage after fatal car fire near Fairfield

Emergency services remain at the scene of a fatal car fire in Sydney's west.

Just after 8.20am today (Saturday 31 October 2020), emergency services were called to Brenan Street at Smithfield, following reports a vehicle was well alight.

The blaze was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW, and a body was located inside the car, which is yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command established a crime scene and have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone with information, or who may have dashcam footage from Brenan Street between 7.30am and 9am today, to please come forward.

Local road closures are currently in place and motorists are urged to avoid the area.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
