Perth office workers will have access to thousands of reusable bags for lunchtime shopping, as part of a new bag exchange program.
Launched by Environment Minister Stephen Dawson, the CBD exchange-a-bag program is the result of a partnership between the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and the National Retail Association - providing environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic bags for use by Perth office staff.
10,000 sustainable bags are being delivered to offices throughout the central business district, providing office workers an alternative to lightweight plastic bags - banned by the McGowan Government in July last year.
The reusable roll-up bags are being delivered in a handy counter-top box designed to be placed in office kitchens, receptions or break areas - convenient for office workers to grab a reusable bag before they pop out for lunch. Bags are returned to the box for others in the office to borrow.

"So far Western Australians have shown overwhelming support for the plastic bag ban and have embraced the challenge of finding alternatives to single use bags for their shopping.
"This new city bag exchange is a great initiative and offers office workers another way of managing without lightweight plastic bags.
"It's been fantastic to see people making their own decisions on alternatives to plastic bags and schemes like this are really helping to get everyone on board.
"It's not that hard to change old shopping habits and look for alternatives to plastic bags, and the environmental benefits are clear."
