Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today announced Piara Waters Senior High School as the official name for the new school opening in Perth's southern suburbs next year.
Construction work is on track at the new secondary school, which will welcome students at the start of the 2023 school year.
The Minister toured the site with Jandakot MLA Yaz Mubaraki today to view progress on the $60 million project in Piara Waters.
A multi-staged consultation process was conducted to name the school, canvassing the views of members of the three local intake primary schools (Aspiri Primary School, Piara Waters Primary School and Treeby Primary School), the Harrisdale/Piara Waters Residents' Group and the broader community.
Local primary school students in Years 4, 5 and 6 were also consulted on the name, representing the future student voice.
Stage one of the landmark Piara Waters Senior High School will be built at a cost of $60 million and includes an education support centre for students with disability. The first-stage build will cater for students from Years 7 to 10.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"This school is in an increasingly popular area for families, so I'm pleased to provide an update on construction of this impressive new school and announce the official name, Piara Waters Senior High School.
"It's fantastic to see work progressing on the new high school, where local students will benefit from state-of-the-art educational facilities from next year.
"This new school will ease pressure on Harrisdale Senior High School and provide a local secondary school for the growing locality of Treeby."
