Clean Energy Technologies to Gain Visibility to Potential Business Partners

RICHLAND, Wash.-The Department of Energy will invest $18.4 million through its Technology Commercialization Fund for national laboratory projects with the goal of moving more clean energy technologies to the marketplace. The selected projects address barriers, gaps and root causes of commercialization challenges.

DOE selected Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to lead two of these projects aimed at partnering across the DOE national laboratories to streamline commercialization of cutting-edge and market-transforming technologies.

"PNNL is committed to the mission of achieving US economic competitiveness and energy security through the commercialization of laboratory-developed technologies," said PNNL Director of Commercialization Christina Lomasney. "Through these projects, the DOE Office of Technology Transitions is enabling a critical link across our national laboratory system and supporting PNNL as we put pedal to metal in the lab-to-market transfer process."

The following is a summary of the selected projects.

Visual Intellectual Property Search System will streamline the search process for energy-related patents and software solutions developed by the national laboratories. PNNL leads this project with partners at DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Fermilab and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Industry partner Tradespace also will join the partnership.

Streamlining Laboratory to Market Workflows Project will accelerate the transition of laboratory-developed technologies to the market through the standardization and automation of technology transfer workflows. PNNL will lead this project with partners at Argonne National Laboratory, Jefferson Lab, Fermilab, Sandia National Laboratories and Idaho National Laboratory. Industry partners include Salesforce and Clarivate.
