Fund for Prevention and Control of Viral Infectious Diseases set up

On January 29, Zhejiang University announced the establishment of the Zhejiang University Fund for Prevention and Control of Viral Infectious Diseases in conjunction with Shanghai Xunmeng Information Technology Co., Ltd. (www.pinduoduo.com), with a scale of 100 million yuan. Meanwhile, the Fund Administrative Committee and the Expert Committee were also set up to take charge of the follow-up management of the Fund and the use of capital.

This fund will be earmarked for the prevention and treatment of viral infections and respiratory infectious diseases, particularly for the support and scientific research of the new coronavirus epidemic, including the allocation of medical materials to hospitals in areas plagued by this severe epidemic, the awards to medical personnel who have made outstanding contributions, and research into the prevention and control of viral infections and critical illnesses.

The Expert Committee is comprised of over 10 specialists who have long been committed to research into viruses, immunity and inflammation, including LI Lanjuan, a member on a high-level team of experts of China's National Health Commission and director of the State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases; GAO Fu, a member on a high-level team of experts of China's National Health Commission and director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention; LIU Zhihong and DUAN Shumin from the Zhejiang University School of Medicine; DONG Chen from the Tsinghua University School of Medicine; SHEN Huahao from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University; QU Jieming from Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University; CHEN Rongchang from Shenzhen Respiratory Disease Research Institute; CAO Bin from China-Japan Friendship Hospital; SONG Yuanlin from Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University; and ZHANG Min from Shanghai General Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
