Police have released further CCTV images and are appealing for public assistance after a second woman was assaulted in Sydney's east.
Detectives from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command have commenced inquiries into the assault of two women in separate incidents in Kensington and Randwick this month.
Initial inquiries suggest the incidents may be linked.
In the first incident, a woman disembarked the light rail at the ES Marks tram stop on Anzac Parade and walked towards Boronia Street about 11.55pm on Tuesday 9 November 2021.
Police were told a man followed her to the entrance of a unit complex, before he grabbed her from behind, pushed her to the ground and attempted to steal her handbag.
The woman – aged 39 – held onto her handbag and the male fled the scene in an unknown direction.
She sustained scratches and bruising above her left eye.
In the second incident, a woman disembarked the light rail at Wansey Road and walked towards Prince and Cowper Streets at Randwick.
While on Cowper Street, the woman – aged 27 – was approached from behind by a man, before being punched to the left side of her mouth.
The woman called for assistance, alerting nearby residents who came to her aid, while the man fled the scene.
She sustained swelling and bleeding to her jaw and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene.
As investigations continue, police are appealing for public assistance and have released further CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist with ongoing inquiries.
The man depicted in the CCTV is described as being of medium build, about 180 cm tall, wearing a face covering, a black hooded 'Everlast' jumper, black pants and black and white sneakers.
Police were told the man spoke with a European accent.
