Cultivating seeds of peace will be the focus of the Sept. 16 Dean's Diversity Lecture at Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development featuring Arun Manilal Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.
His talk, "Is Peace Possible in a Culture of Violence?," is free and open to the public. The event is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 16, noon - 1 p.m. CDT in the Rotunda of the Wyatt Center, located at 1930 South Dr.
As a socio-political activist, journalist, author, philanthropist and motivational speaker, Gandhi has carried on his grandfather's message of the transformational power of channeling one's anger into an agent for doing good. Oct. 2 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi.
"We are pleased that our first Dean's Diversity Lecture of the new school year will feature Arun Gandhi, who has worked diligently to preserve and extend the peaceful teachings of Mahatma Gandhi," said Camilla P. Benbow, Patricia and Rodes Hart Dean of Education and Human Development at Peabody. "His message of non-violence remains as relevant and important now as ever, and we look forward to sharing this message with the Vanderbilt community and the public."
