The Tasmanian Government is determined to reduce the wait times for driver's licence assessments, especially in regional areas.
To cut these delays, an additional 12 suitably qualified driving instructors from the private sector have been authorised to deliver P1 driver assessments.
These extra accredited assessors will be able to conduct assessments seven days a week, during daylight hours.
This will allow assessments to be undertaken at more times, increasing the number of spots available across any given week and potentially in more places.
Getting a driver's licence plays a vital role in helping young Tasmanians make the most of employment and educational opportunities, and to lock in a positive future for themselves.
That's why the Tasmanian Liberal Government is continuing to streamline the process of getting a licence, while ensuring new drivers are equipped with the safety skills they need on our roads.
This pilot has been expanded to March 31, 2021, to enable the Department to review the new system to ensure a sustainable delivery model is developed.
