Following the resignation of Nadine Flood for health reasons, CPSU's Governing Council has today appointed Melissa Donnelly National Secretary. This acting appointment lasts until elections at the end of next year, when members will vote for all elected positions.
CPSU National Secretary Melissa Donnelly thanked Nadine Flood for her hard work for CPSU and said, "She has shown incredible determination through years of a hostile government, leading our union through critical waves of bargaining and building support for our members jobs and the role of the public sector on the national stage".
Ms Donnelly will be the youngest CPSU National Secretary in the Union's history and the third woman to lead the CPSU, Flood being the second. She will be the first working mother to hold the position of National Secretary. She holds degrees in Social Science and Law from Macquarie University and was admitted to practice in NSW in 2006.
Ms Donnelly began at CPSU as a young lawyer, leading Federal Court litigation for members who were being denied the right to participate in the Your Rights At Work campaign by the then Howard Government during the height of WorkChoices.
She became the head of the national Political, Industrial, Research and Legal team and has led the Justice, Revenue and Media team, with responsibility for members and delegates in the ATO, ABS, Prime Minister and Cabinet, Courts, tribunals, Telstra and Australia Post; and more recently had responsibility for members and delegates in the largest APS agency, the Department of Human Services.
She joined CPSU Executive of CPSU in 2015 and has been a Director of Telstra Super and has been since 2018.
