Being a parent is one of the best jobs in the world, but one that can throw up unexpected challenges.

Nillumbik Shire Council is proud to support families with the launch of the Nillumbik Parenting Hub: Building Resilient Families.

The hub will offer parents, carers and grandparents of children and young people a range of support, information and resources in two key ways:

• The Nillumbik Parenting Hub online portal on Council's website

• The Nillumbik Parenting Series

The program aims to strengthen skills, strategies and tools for families to provide positive support to children and young people and respond effectively during the most challenging times.

Nillumbik Mayor Peter Perkins said Council wanted to provide families easy to access to local information and resources.

"Almost a quarter of Nillumbik's population is aged 17 and under, and we want to provide the support needed to help give our children and young people the best possible start in life," Cr Perkins said.

The online portal at nillumbik.vic.gov.au/parenting-hub includes an A-Z Service Directory covering a range of topics with links to organisations and services that can provide practical advice and support.

There is also details of local programs available in Nillumbik to support parents and carers through their child's development from birth to teens.

Topics covered include breast feeding advice and baby settling support, new parents and grandparents groups, youth programs, parenting support, family violence, mental health, support for children with a disability, and more.

The Nillumbik Parenting Series offers a range of online information sessions provided by a variety of experts covering babies and toddlers, early years, youth and general parenting tips.

The series will kick off in February after the school holidays with three events:

Parenting Children Experiencing Anxiety Wednesday 10 February, 7pm.

3 Keys to Nurturing Happy Girls Friday 12 February, 4pm
