Is your child going to kindergarten next year? Registrations are open for eligible children to attend kindergarten on the Mornington Peninsula in 2022.
We recommend families register on time before Sunday 18 July, as this gives you the best chance of getting a spot at the kindergarten of your choice.
We use the Kindergarten Central Registration system, a streamlined and transparent application and allocation process that is fair and equitable for all families.
Why kindergarten?
Early learning, either through a kindergarten or an early childcare centre will set your little ones up for a bright future and offer a gentle, playful beginning to lifelong learning.
Kindergarten improves children's health and wellbeing, helps develop strong social skills and encourages a love of learning.
Children who go to kindergarten are more independent, confident and more likely to make a smooth transition to primary school.
The Victorian Government subsidises fees for some children, so they can attend free or at low cost in the year before they start school.
Your child is eligible if they:
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Have had or are currently in contact with Child Protection Services
- Are a triplet or quadruplet (or higher)
- Hold (or have a parent or guardian who holds) an eligible concession or pension card
- Are a refugee or asylum seeker.
Changes to allocation criteria
Back in February we asked our community about kindergarten priority access and allocation criteria. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. We listened and the new allocation priority is:
Level 1: Children identified as high priority
Level 2: Children who qualify for the sibling priority (previously level 3)
Level 3: Children registering for the kindergarten closest to where they live (previously level 2)
Level 4: Children who live in the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
This change will not impact allocation of kindergarten places for children identified as high priority by the Department of Education and Training.
