Police lay charges over property offences in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have apprehended three people in relation to an unlawful entry of a home in Alice Springs last week.

It is alleged around 1:30am on 30 October, three 15-year-old males and a 16-year-old male unlawfully entered and searched through a Gillen home while the occupants were asleep.

The offenders stole cash and several pairs of shoes before they located two sets of car keys and fled the scene in one of the vehicles.

Detectives from Strike Force Viper located the stolen vehicle which had been abandoned in The Gap area and three of the four offenders were found at a home nearby and subsequently arrested.

A 16-year-old male was arrested and charged with;

  • Aggravated unlawful entry
  • Stealing
  • Damage to property
  • Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle

He will face the additional charge of Breach of Bail in relation to a number of other separate property offences.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before court on 29 November.

Two 15-year-olds were apprehended and later bailed to be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

One 15 year old remains outstanding and police inquiries into his location, continue.

In a separate incident, police have arrested and charged two youth for property related offences.

It is alleged just after 11:30pm on 30 October two males aged 16 and 17-years-old unlawfully entered a home on Telegraph Terrace and stole the occupant's vehicle.

The vehicle, a red Hyundai i20 was observed driving recklessly in the Alice Springs CBD.

Police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device and the vehicle stopped on the Stott Terrace bridge. Three youths fled the vehicle, two were caught following a foot chase with members. A third offender remains outstanding.

A 17-year-old male was arrested and will appear before court today on the following charges;

  • Unlawful use motor vehicle
  • Drive medium range blood alcohol
  • Drive unlicensed
  • Drive manner dangerous

A 16-year-old male will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
