Policy Expert Reveals Roadmap for Sustainable Future

Policy entrepreneur and co-founder of Global Citizen Michael Sheldrick will headline a free public talk 'An 8-point Roadmap to a More Sustainable Future… and how we can all contribute to it' at the State Library of Western Australia this Thursday 21 March.

A graduate of The University of Western Australia, Perth-born Mr Sheldrick studied a combined degree in law and arts, majoring in political science and international relations.

As co-founder of Global Citizen, an international education and advocacy organisation with the mission to end extreme poverty worldwide, he's worked with governments, businesses, foundations, the artist community, and everyday citizens to distribute more than $40 billion globally over the past decade.

Now based in New York, Mr Sheldrick is back in Perth to promote his upcoming book, From Ideas to Impact: A Playbook for Influencing and Implementing Change in a Divided World, which looks at how to implement social impact and accelerate real-word outcomes by driving policy change.

Mr Sheldrick will outline an eight-step roadmap offering tools to foster cooperation, build bridges and drive policy implementation beyond stagnation, conflict, and polarisation, reinforcing the idea that we are not prisoners of fate and that actual change begins with us.

The talk will be of interest for students, community members, philanthropists, corporate social responsibility (CSR) practitioners, environmental, social, and governance professionals, policymakers and corporate foundations.

"We stand at the turning point for the future of people and the planet," Mr Sheldrick said.

"We need to make major progress and it will be a long and hard path but, like the great civil rights and anti-apartheid movements before us, we can succeed, because we are more powerful together."

The event, led by the UWA Public Policy Institute in partnership with the Forrest Research Foundation and UWA Development and Alumni Relations, will begin at 5.45pm on Thursday 21 March at the State Library of WA, and will conclude at 7pm.
