Scientific achievements, social responsibility

This year the University of Freiburg has awarded 38 prizes totaling 109,000 euros to 55 young scientists. The prizes are awarded for outstanding research work based on recommendations from the respective faculties. Since 1989, private individuals and University institutions have provided a total of 2.6 million euros for young researchers' awards. "Science in all its facets makes an invaluable contribution to the development of our society, especially in challenging and uncertain times," emphasizes Rector Prof. Dr. Kerstin Krieglstein. "Our young scientists help shape the future for all of us. All the prize winners have made a contribution to this effort with their dedicated research and outstanding work. I congratulate them on their success."

The booster association Alumni Freiburg e.V. has awarded the Alumni Prize for social responsibility amounting to 2,000 euros to the student group "Corona-Hilfe der Offenen Fachschaft Medizin Freiburg e.V." (Corona Assistance from the Open Student Council of Medicine Freiburg e.V.). The students are committed to supporting hospitals and other health care facilities during the Corona Pandemic. They have established a system that enables them to quickly find volunteers and to pass them on based on their qualifications. More than 1,600 medical students registered within a short time, so that volunteers could be deployed at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and surrounding hospitals as well as in nursing homes and other institutions - including health authorities or the testing ward at the Freiburg Exhibition Center.
