Kevin Hines
AMES, Iowa — A mental health and suicide prevention activist will share his story at the Story County Mental Health Expo.
Kevin Hines will present "Be Here Tomorrow: The Ripple Effect of Suicide" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Iowa State University. At that time, go online to watch the live lecture, which will be live-captioned. A Q&A with Hines will follow. This event is free and open to the public.
Hines is an award-winning brain/mental health and suicide prevention activist, entrepreneur, multiple award-winning filmmaker, best-selling author, international educator and speaker who reaches audiences with his story of an unlikely survival and a will to live.
Two years after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Hines attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. He is one of only 34 to survive the fall, and the only one to regain full physical mobility.
Today, Hines dedicates his life to saving lives and encouraging others to seek help and spread empathy by spreading the message of hope and sharing his story.
The Story County Mental Health Expo is an annual event organized to provide attendees with a resource fair, community resources and practical, everyday tools to more fully understand and manage mental health and recovery issues.
Starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, attendees can access the virtual vendor fair at the expo website.
The expo is coordinated by the Ames Police Department, Central Iowa Community Services, Community and Family Resources, Community Support Advocates, Eyerly Ball Mental Health, ISU Committee on Lectures, ISU Police Department, ISU Student Counseling Services, Lutheran Services in Iowa, National Alliance on Mental Illness of Central Iowa, Optimae Life Services, and Youth & Shelter Services.
