U.S. News & World Report's Best Global Universities Rankings Place UT at No. 43 in World

The University of Texas at Austin is among the top 50 universities in the world, according to U.S. News & World Report's latest Best Global Universities rankings. U.S. News ranked the university No. 43 overall and the No. 1 university in Texas. Among universities in the U.S., UT ranked No. 23.

U.S. News ranked 2,000 higher education institutions in 95 countries in its annual ranking.

The rankings are based on 13 indicators that quantify research performance, global and regional reputations and international collaboration. U.S. News also uses these factors for its global subject rankings. UT Austin earned top-50 rankings in 15 subjects:

  • Arts & Humanities - No. 24
  • Chemistry - No. 31
  • Condensed Matter Physics - No. 32
  • Education and Educational Research - No. 34
  • Geosciences - No. 26
  • Materials Science - No. 25
  • Mathematics - No. 25
  • Microbiology - No. 46 (tie)
  • Nanoscience & Nanotechnology - No. 48 (tie)
  • Physical Chemistry - No. 47
  • Physics - No. 29 (tie)
  • Psychiatry/Psychology - No. 34
  • Social Sciences and Public Health - No. 38 (tie)
  • Space Science - No. 33
  • Water Resources - No. 34

UT Austin's excellence has been recognized by other recent rankings by U.S. News. The university placed No. 38 among national public and private universities in the most recent undergraduate rankings. And U.S. News ranked 55 of the university's graduate programs and specialties among the top 10 in the nation. UT Austin is one of only four public universities with 50 or more specialties ranked so highly.
