Works have commenced on upgrades to two popular Western Australian mountain bike trails as part of the McGowan Government's $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan.
Mountain bike enthusiasts will soon enjoy new trails at The Pines in Margaret River and at the Goat Farm in Perth Hills.
These trails will provide options for riders of all levels, from beginners looking for something leisurely to more advanced riders after a serious challenge.
Construction has commenced for 13 new trails totalling 16km at The Pines in Margaret River, with Stage 1 due to be completed by the end of the year.
At the Goat Farm in Perth Hills, new trails are being constructed at various difficulty levels, with proposed trail development due for completion in mid-2022. Phase one trail development has commenced this month and consists 11 new trails with a total length of 14km.
Construction works are being completed by local contractors to provide jobs and further drive economic and social recovery.
In August, under the WA Recovery Plan, the McGowan Government announced $12.78 million for trails projects throughout the Great Southern Region.
As stated by Environment Minister Stephen Dawson:
"Trail riding is one of the world's fasting growing sport and recreation pursuits, and we expect these new trails will attract tourists and locals alike to these areas.
"The McGowan Government recognises the value of our State's national parks, reserves and forests and is committed to creating new ways for visitors to get out and enjoy them while protecting and connecting with nature.
"Not only do these upgrades improve amenities and opportunities for riders, the construction provides another boost to the local economy as we engage local workers and companies."
