Western Australia has recorded the strongest monthly rise in employment on record, with an unprecedented increase of 32,200 jobs in August.
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data released today shows Western Australia's economic and social recovery continues with employment up a strong 2.4 per cent (32,200 jobs).
The ABS data also shows 71 per cent of jobs lost during the COVID-19 pandemic have now been recovered.
There are now 47,000 more people employed than in early 2017 under the previous Liberal National Government.
The ABS Labour Force report for August reflects the easing of restrictions to Phase 4 which occurred on June 27. The previous Labour Force for July captured only the first two weeks of Phase 4.
Phase 4 saw the removal of gathering limits, for example in restaurants, bars and cafés, the reopening of the casino gaming floor and the return of unseated performances at some venues.
Today's survey builds on other recent data releases that highlight the strength of the Western Australian economy and the early rewards of the McGowan Government's $5.5 billion Recovery Plan.
As stated by Treasurer Ben Wyatt:
"Western Australia has recorded its largest monthly jobs increase on record, with more than 32,200 Western Australians finding jobs in August.
"Our State also accounted for around one third of jobs created nationally in August, highlighting the strength of our economy behind our hard border and the early benefits of the WA Recovery Plan.
"The McGowan Government's decision to implement a hard border was clearly important in rebuilding our economy.
"There are now 47,000 more people employed in Western Australia than in early 2017 under the previous Liberal National Government.
"While today's results are encouraging signs for our economy, there is still more to do.
"Getting Western Australians back to work is the McGowan Government's number one priority."
