More than 500 cubic metres of mulch, enough to cover almost four football fields, has been used as part of a street transformation blitz on Idalia.
Garden beds across the suburb have been treated to new plants and mulch along almost 3km of Lakeside Dr, on the corner of Huxley Cres and Riveredge Blvd, on the median strip on Fairfield Waters Dr outside Oonoonba State School, and on the roundabout on River Blvd and Edgewater Tce.
Local Recovery Resilience Group Chairperson, Councillor Les Walker, said it was great to see progress made on the beautification of the suburb.
"Restoring our suburbs to the way they looked before the 2019 monsoon event is an important step in making Townsville residents feel at home after a stressful year," Cr Walker said.
"Many families are back to living in their homes and wanting to enjoy their neighbourhoods, whether that's when they're walking to school in the morning or when spending time with their family after work."
Infrastructure Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Mark Molachino, said there were money-saving measures taken to ensure the works were cost-efficient.
"There was 500m3 of mulch used in this work, which was made by Council's Parks Open Space & Environment team," Cr Molachino said.
"The team made the mulch using green waste materials collected in other areas, which helped save a lot of money during this project."
But Cr Molachino said the work wasn't done yet, with more rehabilitation on the suburb's garden beds planned for the near future.
"There are more site restorations on their way over the next few months, as Council works towards recovering Idalia," he said.
"We appreciate residents' patience as our crews work to complete these ongoing improvements."
