Dogs allowed off-leash at Highton pipe track reserve

Community members have been given the green light to walk their dogs off the lead at the Highton pipe track reserve.

Dog walkers are the largest recreational users of the green corridor that separates Highton and Wandana Heights, which is owned and managed by Barwon Water.

The change comes as a result of a review, instigated by a Notice of Motion from Councillor Ron Nelson. Dog owners are encouraged to have effective control of their pets and to pick up after them.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said the Highton pipe track is a great place to exercise.

This a fantastic result for those who like to take their dog to the Highton pipe track.
If community members feel strongly about being able to walk dogs off lead, they are welcome to contact their local councillors about the topic.

Councillor Ron Nelson, Kardinia Ward said the result is a good example of community members coming forward with their ideas.

Thanks to the community members who contacted me about the Highton Pipe Track.
Residents are free to let their dogs off the lead in this area, while being mindful of other users exercising along the track.
