Hazmat incident in Alice Springs 26 May

Northern Territory Police and Fire Rescue Service responded quickly to a chemical spill caused by a fire within a shipping container on McDonald Road in Alice Springs today.

Alice Springs Fire and Rescue Service attended and created a 25m exclusion zone, evacuating everyone from the area.

Acting Senior Station Officer Jo-Anna Kenney said crews worked with management on site to contain the spill, "Approximately five hours later we gave the all clear to re-open the road to the public.

"No injuries were reported and we thank everyone for their cooperation."
