- $192 million Geraldton Health Campus expansion reaches practical completion
- Redevelopment is the largest in more than 20 years, helping build capacity and enhance patient care
- Works continue on the delivery of the Mid West's first radiation oncology unit, with completion anticipated in 2027
- Part of the Cook Labor Government's record $5.5 billion investment in health infrastructure, helping Western Australians get the care they need when they need it
The $192 million Geraldton Health Campus Redevelopment is now complete, delivering a modernised, fit-for-purpose facility for the Geraldton and Mid West community that will reduce the need for patients to travel to Perth for treatment.
The redevelopment is the biggest in more than two decades, which was completed under the previous Labor Government, and increases hospital capacity, helping meet growing demand in the region.
Thanks to the refurbishments, Geraldton Health Campus now includes:
- an expanded Emergency Department with increased services and capacity to support faster, more effective treatment;
- an integrated mental health service including a Mental Health Observation Area, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit, alongside the new Midwest Mental Health and Community Alcohol and Drug Service facility - bringing together assessment, treatment and support services to strengthen mental health care across the region;
- enhanced safety features, including interview rooms, isolation facilities and behavioural observation beds; and
- modern infrastructure and engineering upgrades to improve reliability, efficiency and sustainability across the campus.
The first services, including the Emergency Department and Community Mental Health, are set to welcome patients from August, marking a significant step forward in local healthcare delivery. Additional services will progressively move into the facility from September.
Works are continuing on a new standalone radiation oncology unit. This will deliver the first cancer treatment service of its kind in the Mid West, enabling patients to access lifesaving care closer to home.
The unit is jointly funded by the Cook Labor Government ($25.8 million) and Commonwealth Government ($12.6 million), with completion expected next year.
More than $19 million in contracts will have been awarded to Mid West businesses for the construction of the redevelopment main works, supporting local jobs and industry.
This project forms part of the Cook Labor Government's record $5.5 billion investment in health infrastructure, the largest hospital building program in Western Australia's history.
The redevelopment is part of a broader program of investment in regional health infrastructure across Western Australia, including major upgrades at Albany Health Campus, Bunbury Health Campus, and hospitals in Tom Price and Meekatharra.
Together, these projects are strengthening healthcare access across regional WA and ensuring communities can receive high-quality care closer to where they live.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"This is a significant milestone for Geraldton and the Mid West, delivering a modern, first-class health facility that will serve the community for decades to come.
"Our government is committed to ensuring people in regional Western Australia can access the health care they need, when they need it, closer to home.
