Multiple charged after house party brawl at Moree

Five people have been charged following a public order incident in the New England area overnight.

Just before 11.15pm (Saturday 20 June 2020), officers attached to New England Police District attended a home on Adelaide Street, Moree, after receiving noise complaints about a house party.

Upon arrival, police spoke to the owner of the home and issued a noise abatement direction.

A short time later, police were called back to the Adelaide Street address about 12.30am (Sunday 21 June 2020), after reports of multiple brawls between party guests.

Police attended and began to disperse a crowd of approximately 100 people in the front yard, when they were allegedly assaulted and had glass bottles thrown at them and their vehicles.

OC Spray was deployed, and four people – two men aged 22 and 26 and two women aged 38 and 35 – were arrested and taken to Moree Police Station.

Following inquiries, the 22-year-old man was charged with refuse/fail to comply with direction, affray, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, three counts of assault officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty, intimidate police officer in execution of duty, possess prohibited drug, and possess car breaking implements.

The 26-year-old man was charged with assault officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty, and affray.

They were both refused bail to appear before Moree Local Court today (Sunday 21 June 2020).

The 35-year-old woman was charged with affray and violent disorder. She was granted conditional bail to appear before Moree Local Court on Friday 28 August 2020.

The 38-year-old woman was released pending further inquiries.

About 2.20am, police were conducting additional patrols of the street when they observed a fight between two men. The pair – aged 29 and 23 – were arrested and taken to Moree Police Station.

Police have been told the older man allegedly drove his car towards the younger man, coming to a stop in front of him. The man exited the vehicle and a physical altercation took place. The men are known to each other.

The two men were charged with common assault (DV) and the older man was additional charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.

They were granted conditional bail to appear before Moree Local Court on Friday 28 August 2020.

A male constable sustained facial bruising during the incident and the police vehicles sustained minor damage.
