New Myilly Precinct Creating Local Jobs and Attracting Families

Atender to design and construct a new family precinct at Myilly Point whichwill include a state of the art playground, activities space and landscapedpublic area - has been awarded to local business DTA Contractors Pty Ltd.

The$2.7million project will comprise of a Youth Zone and an Adventure Play Zone,giving families and the wider community cool and active spaces to enjoy.

The Youth Zone includes:

  • A basketball half court
  • Skate area
  • Tropical landscaping; and
  • Power and water services.

The Adventure Play Zone includes:

  • Options for shaded play equipment;
  • Active climbing areas
  • Balance beams
  • Seating; and

Additionally, Myilly Point will have a:

  • Shaded central picnic area, with barbeques facilities and amenities;
  • A walking and running track with one kilometre and one mile (1.6km) options.

Works are set to begin in the coming weeks andanticipated for completion early 2020.

TheTerritory Labor Government is delivering on a community precinct for allTerritorians to enjoy, unlike the CLP who wanted to build more unit complexes this space will also acknowledge the history and cultural significance to theStolen Generation of the Kahlin Compound.

As stated by the Minister for Infrastructure,Planning and Logistics, Eva Lawler:

We have listened to the community and understandhow important Myilly Point is to the Top End; these works will enhance this keypublic space and provide a wonderful family friendly park for people to enjoy.

Our Government will continue to deliver forTerritorians and support local jobs.

Consultationis underway for a future stage of the project to acknowledge the history andcultural significance of the site. These projects will still allow for anyfuture activation of Myilly Point.
