Police charge two with weapons, drug offences at Griffith

Two people have been charged after weapons and drugs were allegedly located at a home in Griffith yesterday.

About 11am (Thursday 11 June 2020), officers from Murrumbidgee Police District Proactive Crime Team attended a home in Griffith to serve a Firearms Prohibition Order.

During a search of the home, police allegedly located more than $20,000 cash, prohibited drugs and property believed to be stolen.

A crime scene was declared and during a subsequent search warrant, officers also allegedly located and seized firearm parts, ammunition, a silencer, knuckle dusters, tasers and a flick knife.

A total of 72 items were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

Following extensive inquiries, a 42-year-old man and 34-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station.

The man was charged with possess prohibited weapon (x4), possess ammunition without holding licence, shorten firearm (not pistol) unless authorised by permit, acquire etc firearm part – prohibition, acquire etc ammunition subject to prohibition order and acquire firearm part without authority to do so.

The woman was charged with supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug (x3), deal with proceeds of crime, possess firearm parts and possess prohibited weapon.

The pair were refused bail and are due to face Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Friday 12 June 2020).
