Reckless driving in Darwin

Northern Territory Police, Fire and Rescue and St John Ambulance attended three separate crashes in the space of a few hours in Darwin overnight.

A 33-year-old male driver was travelling on Batten Road in Marrara when he crashed into a pole. Despite the vehicle sustaining extensive damage, the driver attempted to continue driving a further 100m down the road.

Police attended and the driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which provided a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Palmerston Watch House for further breath analysis.

A short time later, police received reports of a vehicle that had collided with a parked vehicle on Lanyon Terrace in Moil. The 21-year-old male driver provided a positive roadside breath test and was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital for a medical assessment.

Less than an hour later, a 25-year-old female crashed her vehicle on Bagot Road in Ludmilla. The vehicle rolled into a nearby fence before coming to a stop. Miraculously she escaped injury.

Commander Matthew Hollamby said these three drivers are extremely lucky to walk away with only minor scratches and bruises.

"National Road Safety Week commences on Sunday, and it's disappointing to see the behaviours of some Territorians."
