Safety, truck rest areas, and what can be learned from Western Australia will all be on the agenda at the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) Trucking Australia 2019 Conference.
The ATA represents the 50,000 businesses and 211,500 people in the Australian trucking industry and is hosting the national conference from 3-5 April in Perth, Western Australia.
"This is an opportunity to join the nation's trucking operators and industry stakeholders as we tackle the big issues together," ATA Chair Geoff Crouch said today.
"Trucking Australia is all about collaboration and connection. 2019 will be a big year for trucking and there is no better way to get across all the issues and make sure your voice is heard.
"Delegates will join expert speakers from Western Australia and beyond to share ideas and develop an understanding of the role we can all play in improving our industry's safety, productivity and viability.
"Trucking Australia 2019 is not to be missed. In addition to informative sessions and collaborative workshops, we will be launching the new TruckSafe standards as well as a number of important industry reports.
"These reports will be discussed for the first time at our conference. You will not find them anywhere else," Mr Crouch said.
Deloitte Access Economics will join the conference to present 'Regulation in the Australian Trucking Industry' and NTI will share its latest truck crash statistics.
Additionally, supply chain recruitment specialists Labourforce will present its Transport, Logistics and Supply Chain Job Index.
"This index will help guide strategies to resolve the important issue of driver shortage in the industry," Mr Crouch said.
In a Trucking Australia first, the ATA is providing delegates the exclusive opportunity for delegates to 'ask an expert' in the ConnectHUB.
"Delegates can drop into the ConnectHUB for a one-on-one chat with specialists from a range of companies, including Deloitte Access Economics, Labourforce, Seeing Machines and The Australian Government Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities," Mr Crouch said.
"In another conference first, we are also partnering with Transport Women Australia for the MaxiTRANS Welcome Breakfast, which sees top US trucking leader Ellen Voie shares industry insights," he said.
Key program sessions include:
- what makes WA trucking great, with well-known Western Australians Heather Jones and Glenn 'Yogi' Kendall
- the latest facts on truck safety
- the national truck law review, and how the eastern states can learn from Western Australia
- what government-imposed freight rates could mean for your trucking business.
Catering to everyone in industry from drivers to managers and directors, the program also features collaboration sessions and workshops that take a deep-dive into the key issues of fatigue laws, driver licensing standards, access and permits, and truck rest areas.
ATA technology partner Teletrac Navman will be back at Trucking Australia this year, supporting the sessions in the Collaboration Space.
"Our rest area collaboration session will see professional drivers share their experience, knowledge and recommendations with other delegates in discussing, planning and developing the perfect rest area design. The ATA will then use this industry recommendation in lobbying for changes to standards," Mr Crouch said.
In addition to the business sessions, the conference will give delegates a chance to relax, unwind and build their professional networks while experiencing Perth's outstanding dining scene at the Daimler local showcase dinner and networking drinks event.
The industry's heritage will be showcased at the Kenworth Legends Lunch. Delegates will come together to recognise the incredible achievements of trucking stalwarts, hearing the great Australian stories of pioneering people who still live amongst us today.
