Police charge man after Thomastown sexual assault

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested and charged an 82-year-old man following a sexual assault on a bus in Thomastown last month.

The Thomastown man was arrested following the execution of a search warrant in Thomastown today.

He was interviewed and charged with sexual assault and stalking and was bailed to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 9 April 2021.

The charges follow a report to police that a man approached a woman at a bus stop on Alexander Avenue about 9.50am on 10 November.

It is alleged the man made explicit comments and followed the woman onto a bus before sexually assaulting her.

Investigators would like to thank the community and the media for their assistance with the matter.
