Police make arrest after evade police incident in Como

About 11.10pm last night (4 November 2020), Police sighted a stolen black Toyota Hilux travelling on Thelma Street in Como.

It is alleged the driver failed to stop for police and accelerated into Murray Street. It is alleged the man continued driving through various streets in the Como area and ran down a wooden bollard at a Secondary College before driving into park land and hitting several large boulders at speed before driving onto Bruce Street.

The rear left tyre of the Hilux shredded on Gardner Street in Como and the man is alleged to have continued driving in a reckless manner with only three tyres on the vehicle.

It is further alleged on Hazel Street the man drove directly at a marked police vehicle with its emergency lights and sirens activated, narrowly missing it. The man continued to drive at high speed along South Terrace and turned right onto Murray Street where he drove through grasslands at South Perth Tennis Court until the vehicle came to a stop against a tennis court fence.

It is alleged the driver fled on foot and was apprehended by police nearby.

A 38-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with:-

• Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit by Police;

• Driver of a Vehicle Failed to Comply with a Direction to Stop (Circumstance of aggravation);

• Drove, Caused or Permitted a Vehicle with a Forged, Replica or False Plate to be Driven on a Road; and

• Steal Motor Vehicle.

He is due to appear before the Fremantle Magistrates Court today, 5 November 2020.
