Police update: Man detained after Glenelg East incident, South Australia

A Glenelg South man has been detained for seven days following an incident involving a bus at Glenelg East this morning.

Just after 7.30am on Thursday 18 June, police were called to the intersection of Diagonal Road and Brighton Road at Glenelg East after reports a man was running in and out of traffic and causing damage to a car and a bus.

Southern District and Western District patrols arrived on scene and located the man who had been detained by members of the public.

The 37-year-old man from Glenelg South was then detained by police patrols and conveyed to Flinders Medical Centre by ambulance crews for a mental health assessment.

The man is currently undergoing surgery in hospital after he received several cuts to his arms during the incident.

He will remain in hospital under a seven day mental health assessment and once cleared will then be interviewed by police over this morning's incident, with charges of property damage and assault likely.
