A revised bus timetable will run over the summer holiday period from Monday 21 December 2020 until Sunday 10 January 2021. Transport Canberra will again be providing FREE travel on Christmas Day on buses and light rail.
Deputy Director-General, Transport Canberra and Business Services, Ben McHugh said that over the summer there is a reduction in patronage while Canberrans take leave and we all get in the festive spirit.
"To give our drivers a well-deserved break and do our part for the planet, we are reducing the frequency slightly to match the demand," Mr McHugh said.
"When travelling through the summer holiday period, we recommend planning ahead using the TC Journey Planner or accessing real-time information about bus services via NXTBUS."
The holiday timetable still provides a high level of frequency with all local services and the Rapid 10 running at least every 30 minutes and all other Rapids running at least every 15 minutes during the day and around every hour after 8pm during the week.
A regular Sunday timetable will run on both Saturday and Sunday from 26 December to 10 January, as well as public holidays (excluding Christmas Day). From 16 January, the standard Saturday timetable will resume.
"In October we increased our weekday services significantly providing 692 services more services every weekday to help people spread out on board as we respond to COVID-19. While customers will see some reduction in frequency during this period there are still 526 more services each weekday than the same time last year and we are confident that service levels will not impact crowding."
The regular school vacation weekday timetable will recommence 11 January 2021 and run through until the school term commences on 1 February 2021.
Light rail services will continue to run to their regular frequency over the holiday period with a Sunday frequency in effect on public holidays and later services on New Year's Eve.
There is a special Christmas Day bus timetable on Friday 25 December 2020 and includes FREE travel for all trips on both buses and light rail for the day.
The Christmas Day bus timetable will run from 7:40am-5pm with local services running every two hours, the Rapid 4 every 30 minutes and all other Rapid services every hour across the network. Light rail will run to a Sunday frequency on Christmas Day.
Mr McHugh reminded Canberrans to be COVID-safe while using public transport over the summer including practising good hand hygiene, not travelling if unwell, using the rear doors on buses to board (unless rear door access is required) and paying using MyWay or a pre-paid ticket.
