Truck driver charged after fatal crash at Bewong

A man has been charged following investigations into a fatal crash on the state's south coast last week.

About 3.30am on Thursday 18 June 2020, emergency services were called to the Princes Highway at Bewong after a B-double truck and a Hyundai van collided.

The 36-year-old driver – and sole occupant - of the van died at the scene.

The 53-year-old driver of the truck was uninjured. He was taken to hospital to undergo mandatory testing.

Following investigations by officers from Southern Crash Investigation Unit, the truck driver was arrested yesterday (Tuesday 23 June 2020).

He was taken to Nowra Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was given conditional bail and will appear in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday 25 August 2020.

The man's licence was suspended.
