  • Architecture firm Carabiner has been selected to design a new teaching block at Malvern Springs Primary School.

The $2.5 million building will include four contemporary classrooms which will provide outstanding learning spaces for students.

With the project now in the design stage, construction is expected to start in February 2021 with completion expected in early 2022.

Malvern Springs Primary School caters to a multicultural local community, with more than a quarter of students coming from families where English is not their first language.

Growing rapidly from fewer than 300 students when it first opened in 2012, Malvern Springs Primary School currently provides education to 845 students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

This project will create nine new jobs and is part of the McGowan Government's unprecedented Major School Upgrade package - totalling $492.2 million.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"This project will add to the first-class learning environment available for students at Malvern Springs Primary School and I'm excited to see how these important new facilities will be designed.

"These new permanent classrooms will allow the school to continue to provide excellent educational opportunities for local families in this rapidly growing area.

"Our Government is delivering significant investment in schools as part of the WA Recovery Plan, creating improved learning environments, as well as jobs for local workers."

As stated by Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:

"I can't wait to see the designs for Malvern Springs Primary School's new classrooms. It's a fantastic school, in an area that's growing very quickly.

"I'm so pleased to see our community finally getting the services and facilities we need and deserve."
