The Worimi Conservation Lands Board of Management (the Board) is pleased to welcome back campers to the popular Ganyamalbaa Camping Area in the Aboriginal-owned Worimi Conservation Lands from 26 June following the recent temporary camping closure to rest and rehabilitate the popular beach front camp sites.
Board chairperson Mr Jamie Tarrant said that the Ganyamalbaa (gunya-mul-ba), meaning a 'place to camp' in Worimi Gathang language, is a unique beach camping area located at the southern end of the park.
"By day, campers can enjoy sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, dunes and the spectacular Worimi cultural landscape and by night, the brilliant stars of the Milky Way galaxy turn on a mesmerizing show, framed by the sleepy lights of Newcastle city in the distance.
"We are excited that people can once again book a campsite online to enjoy our unique beach front camping experience with family and friends.
"Ganyamalbaa offers 15 spacious bookable campsites accommodating up to 8 campers per site.
"While campsites are fully booked for this weekend (27-28 June) people are advised to book online now to reserve a campsite for the July school holidays" said Mr Tarrant.
"Visitors are reminded that Ganyamalbaa is a remote beach camping area with no facilities. Campers will need to be fully self-sufficient and bring their own water, firewood and a portable camp toilet.
Ganyamalbaa Camping Area was opened in February 2019 to provide a safe, enjoyable and sustainable camping experience for visitors in line with the Board's vision – 'protect, respect, connect'.
Ganyamalbaa is part of the Board's Worimi Conservation Lands camping trial. Camping is being introduced in stages to permit ongoing monitoring of the impacts of camping on Worimi cultural sites and the frontal dunes.
Visitors are reminded that physical distancing is still required for all activities in NSW national parks. Current rules on public gatherings also continue to apply.
