Police arrest man after daring escape attempt in Adelaide, South Australia

A man wanted for various offending has been arrested after he tried to evade police by scaling down a three storey building in Hindley Street in the city.

Just after 9am on Tuesday 16 June, police patrols attended an apartment building in Hindley Street in search of a man wanted for recent offending, including breaching his bail, driving to evade police after refusing to stop for a patrol on Monday 8 June and allegedly driving at 152km/h in a 80km/h zone on the same day.

Police set up cordons around the building and then attended a room of the third floor.

On seeing the police patrol the wanted man opened the glass sliding door to the balcony and climbed over the railing dropping down the second floor balcony below. The man dressed in bright orange hi-vis top has then climbed down from the second floor balcony onto the first story verandah roof walked along the roof and then jumped onto the roof of car parked in Hindley Street, damaging the roof of the car.

A waiting police officer in Hindley Street has then detained the wanted man as he's jumped from the roof of the car and tried to escape.

The 29-year-old man from Smithfield Plains was arrested and charged with driving to evade police, breaching his bail, driving disqualified, driving at a speed dangerous to the public, property damage and hindering police.

The arrested man appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded in custody to appear on 14 July.
