The City of Ballarat is thrilled to be able to unveil six creative installations across the CBD showcasing local artists in unused shop windows.
These installations have been made possible due to the Victorian Government COVIDSafe Outdoor Activation Fund 2021, where in the City of Ballarat received $30,000 to commission these artworks.
Local social enterprise Ballarat Evolve were commissioned to install the local artwork and support the local creative industries.
The installations are throughout central Ballarat and are utilising empty window space. You will soon be able to find;
- Marce King at 131 Sturt Street.
- Antayjo Art at 10 Bridge Mall.
- Arthur Creative at 26 Bridge Mall.
- Spencer Harrison at 324 Sturt Street.
This is the second time the City of Ballarat has facilitated installations like this to support the creative industries.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said he was proud that the City of Ballarat can support local creative industries in the current climate.
"We know Ballarat is an inherently creative city" he said.
"Not only does this provide opportunities to our local creatives to display their work, but it also enables our residents and visitors to experience the talent we have here in Ballarat" he said.
Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison said activating the CBD with local artwork is important to showcase the City of Ballarat's creativity.
"The six installations by local artists, supported with a $30,000 grant from the Andrews Labor Government are about activating Sturt St and the Bridge Mall and we hope that they will be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike," she said.
"Public art projects like this reinforce Ballarat's reputation as a creative city."
Kelsie White from Ballarat Evolve said activating these windows and working with different artists across Ballarat has been such a pleasure.
"Each artist has brought their own unique style to the windows," she said.
"Everyone is so excited to share their work with the general public who might be walking past and be able to stop for a moment to take it all in."
