Bruce Wilson, a group leader in the Environmental Sciences Division at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been elevated to the grade of senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery, or ACM. Senior members of ACM are those who have worked in a relevant field for at least 10 years, demonstrated technical leadership and made significant contributions to the profession.
As head of the lab's Remote Sensing and Environmental Informatics group, Wilson focuses on building and managing information systems for climate scientists and ecologists. His team provides integrated data products, data analytics and data management and delivery systems to advance environmental science.
Wilson serves as the manager and principal investigator for the ORNL Distributed Active Archive Center (ORNL DAAC) for Biogeochemical Dynamics. The ORNL DAAC is the comprehensive archive and distributor of terrestrial ecology data from NASA Earth Science missions, including ecosystem and carbon cycle data from ground, aircraft and satellite-based campaigns.
Wilson holds an appointment in both the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education and the School of Information Sciences in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He helped found the USA National Phenology Network and has served in multiple roles in ORNL's Information Technology Services Division.
