'Tis season in our Shire

To bring some festive cheer to our community and to support local businesses, we are pleased to launch Christmas in Nillumbik and spread the word 'Tis the Season in Our Shire.

Look out for the bespoke festive trimmings featuring local flora and fauna that are being installed in retail precincts throughout Nillumbik.

A range of free community led festivities, funded through Council's Festive Grants Program, have been organised for everyone to enjoy. These include:

  • Performances
  • Demonstrations
  • Virtual celebration events
  • Goodwill programs that support local community captured on film
  • Local history and stories
  • Local virtual walks showcasing festive spirit

The local traders' associations are also delivering a range of activities and events throughout December.

Nillumbik Mayor Peter Perkins said 2020 had been a very challenging year, and for our business community, one of the hardest yet.

"We encourage everyone to share the festive spirit this year and shop local to support our businesses," Cr Perkins said.

"We have worked closely with trader associations and community groups to bring some much-needed Christmas cheer to the Shire."

The free Shop Local Delivery Service will return for the "12 Small Biz Days Before Christmas" from 7 December.

Local businesses can have non-perishable items delivered to Nillumbik homes free of charge in time for Christmas.

Residents who have a gift delivered using the Shop Local Delivery Service have the chance to win a $50 shop local gift card.

Look out for our photo board competition – take a snap in front of one of the 17 'Tis the Season in our Shire photo boards across Nillumbik, post to Instagram and Facebook with the #ShopLocalnillumbik tagging @VisitNillumbik, and you could win a $100 shop local gift card.

After a challenging year it is important to spread some random acts of Christmas kindness through our Be Kind Nillumbik activities.

Send some Christmas cheer to a neighbor, friend or stranger with a free #BeKindNillumbik postcard available to download from our website or collect a printed version from selected outlets.
